Gloucester Mural Artists Transform Community Spaces

Hi, we’re Mint + Mabel, a mural-painting duo made up of Hattie and Erin, and over the past few years, we’ve had the joy of transforming venues and community spaces across Gloucestershire with our artwork.

With over 50 mural projects behind us, our mission is simple: to use art to bring colour, creativity, and connection to the spaces people live, work, learn and play in. Whether we’re painting the walls of a primary school, a high street, or a community sports hub, we believe murals have the power to do more than decorate, they uplift, inspire, and bring people together.

Tredworth High Street, Gloucester

One of our most vibrant projects to date was in Tredworth, Gloucester, as part of an incredible street transformation led by colour visionary Tash Frootko. We painted a feature mural outside the One Stop shop to welcome visitors to the high street—and also helped bring a large community mural to life using designs created by local schoolchildren.

From the moment we picked up our brushes, we were met with warmth, curiosity, and conversation. Within just a few days of starting our first street mural, we knew we were part of something special. The response from locals was incredible. It’s so great to create work that brings people together and adds new life to public spaces.

The Chamwell Centre, Gloucester

We were thrilled to be invited to paint a mural at The Chamwell Centre, a fantastic facility supporting people with disabilities and additional needs. We created a joyful woodland scene in their café, and were later invited back to paint a second woodland themed mural in the new outdoor play area. Sponsored by EG Carter, this mural turned the playground into a fun, imaginative space for children to enjoy.

Ria Heap, General Manager at The Chamwell Centre says:
“We are absolutely, utterly, and completely JOYous to share this outstanding piece of art created by the talented Hattie & Erin from Mint + Mabel in our cafe!

This mural is a celebration of the values that mean the world to us: accessibility, inclusion, support, diversity, and community. Set in a tranquil woodland, adorned with woodland animals in soft, muted tones, it beautifully reflects our commitment to making the world a kinder, more welcoming place for all.”

We hope our murals encourage children to be creative and feel inspired. It's really exciting to create spaces where young people can play and explore surrounded by art.

Blackbridge Community and Sports Hub, Gloucester

Another highlight was working with Blackbridge CCBS to create wayfinding signage and murals for the new Blackbridge Community and Sports Hub. In this community-driven collaboration, the local youth group SYNERGY worked with FWP to contribute ideas for the internal signage, which Mint + Mabel then brought to life through vibrant bespoke illustrations. These designs reflect the vibrant energy and welcoming atmosphere of the new space, making it a place where everyone can feel at home.

Rebecca Boseley, Blackbridge CCBS, says:
“From the outset we've been so impressed with their approach, ideas, creativity and professionalism. We've received so many fantastic comments about the work they have produced for us and we absolutely love it!”

From football pitches and a dance studio to a community café and gym, the Hub offers something for everyone. It was such a privilege to contribute to a project that will serve so many people for years to come.

Why We Do It

For us, art isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about connection. It’s about creating spaces where people feel welcome, seen, and inspired. Murals can tell stories, spark imagination, and build a sense of pride and place.

Every project is a chance to collaborate, connect, and create something meaningful. Whether we're painting alongside schoolchildren, chatting with passers-by on the street, or helping shape the identity of a new community hub, we’re reminded time and time again of how powerful art can be.

We’re so grateful to be able to do what we love, and to see first-hand how a splash of paint can help transform not just a wall, but the way a whole space feels.

Thanks for following our journey,
Hattie + Erin
Mint + Mabel
