Gloucester-based mural artists and designers, Mint + Mabel, were asked to design the plaque for HRH The Princess Royal’s official opening of Blackbridge Community and Sports Hub, to match the mural and branding designs the duo created for them earlier in the year. Mint + Mabel worked closely with Blackbridge CCBS to bring the Hub’s branding to life, alongside designing internal murals and wayfinding graphics from the ideas created by local youth group SYNERGY and FWP. Blackbridge Community and Sports Hub held a very exciting opening event, in which HRH The Princess Royal was welcomed at the hub in Podsmead, Gloucester, to unveil a commemorative plaque which features some of the bespoke illustrations used in murals and graphics across the hub. The unveiling took place in the social space, in front of the hand painted mural which represents the community and surrounding rural areas. The Princess Royal’s visit was a wonderful way to celebrate the opening of the hub, which will provide sports, leisure, and wellbeing activities for those in the local community.

Mint + Mabel also ran a creative workshop during the SYNERGY youth group at the hub to create bunting for the event. These community based projects and youth clubs are so valuable to the local area of Podsmead and across Gloucestershire, bringing people together in a fabulous new facility. So many people have been involved in the opening of the new hub, many of whom were introduced to The Princess Royal on the day to acknowledge and celebrate their individual input.

Mint + Mabel say “It was an honour to be asked to design the plaque for HRH The Princess Royal’s official opening of Blackbridge Community and Sports Hub. It was so lovely to meet everyone who has been involved in creating this wonderful space. As local Gloucester artists, it’s always a pleasure to work with other businesses in the area and to work on something that will benefit people in Gloucestershire. There was a real community spirit and we are so pleased to have been a part of the official opening celebration.”
